Interviewer: What areas of Personal Injury do you tend to handle and which ones do you not handle?
Richard Sailer: Primarily given that in Southern California we’re a commuter society, we primarily handle automobile accidents but we do handle other personal injury matters. Dog bites, trip and falls, assaults, basically any time somebody’s injured and there’s a responsible party.
Medical Malpractice is a Very Complex and Specialized Area of Personal Injury Law
Interviewer: Do you deal with medical malpractice or product liability, that type of thing?
Richard Sailer: Well medical malpractice is a very complex and specialized area so we typically don’t handle that, however we do have attorneys that we refer those matters to.
Interviewer: How many cases do you think dealt with over the past sixteen years?
Richard Sailer: Several thousand I’d say, probably four or five thousand files.
People Contemplating Personal Injury Litigation Need Guidance and Help in Understanding the Process
Interviewer: What’s your common experience that – how do people feel when they first meet you about an injury they’ve had? What’s their mindset? What’s common?
Richard Sailer: Well typically people, their initial call is because they really just need information; they don’t understand the process, if they’ve tried to do anything themselves they get the run around by the insurance company right off the go, so they’re reluctant to move forward, and they kind of just need some guidance and some help in understanding the process and what their rights are.
People From All Strata of Society Get Involved in Automobile Accidents
Interviewer: Is there any particular type of person that you see getting into accidents or just kind of cut across all walks of life?
Richard Sailer: I think it cuts across all walks of life, you know, anybody can be sitting at a red light and get rammed in. I don’t see really any demographic or socio-economic differences among my clients, I’ve got everything from day-labors to doctors that have been clients.
Common Client Concerns when Pursuing Personal Injury Litigation
Interviewer: What are like the top concerns about people that are calling about an auto accident? Do they get any money for their injuries, or fixing their car – what’s on their mind most of all?
Richard Sailer: Well that may be an area where different demographics have different needs. Often times its people that are now without transportation; they’re concerned about their jobs, concerned about getting to work. Sometimes people are concerned that they don’t have health insurance, they don’t have access to medical care – so that’s really more case-specific based on the individual involved in the accident, but I would say typically it’s either they have concerns about their car being repaired or they need assistance in obtaining medical care.
